Irrigation Technician

Roles:

• Execute the installation and repair of irrigation systems as per the design specifications.
• Maintain the functionality and efficiency of irrigation systems to support optimal plant growth.
• Troubleshoot and resolve irrigation-related issues promptly.
• Work under the supervision of irrigation engineers or landscape managers to implement projects.
  
  

Responsibilities:

• Installation of Irrigation Systems
• Lay out, assemble, and install pipes, sprinklers, valves, drip systems, controllers, and other irrigation components.
• Follow blueprints, site plans, or technical drawings to ensure accurate system placement.
• Test new installations to verify proper operation and water distribution.
• Adjust sprinkler heads, nozzles, and emitters for optimal coverage.
• Maintenance and Repair
• Perform regular system inspections to identify issues such as leaks, clogs, or misaligned sprinklers.
• Repair or replace damaged parts, including pipes, pumps, valves, and controllers.
• Clean and flush systems to remove blockages or sediment buildup.
• Ensure seasonal adjustments, such as winterization or reactivation in spring, are completed effectively.
• Water Management
• Adjust irrigation schedules based on weather, soil conditions, and plant water needs.
• Install and calibrate smart irrigation technologies like soil moisture sensors and rain shut-off devices.
• Monitor water usage and recommend improvements to reduce waste.
• Troubleshooting and Diagnostics
• Diagnose problems like uneven water distribution, low pressure, or electrical malfunctions in controllers.
• Use diagnostic tools and equipment to locate and resolve underground leaks or wiring issues.
• Provide solutions for system inefficiencies, such as upgrading to water-saving technologies.
• Communication and Documentation
• Communicate findings and recommendations to supervisors, clients, or team members.
• Provide clients with guidance on system operation and maintenance.
• Maintain detailed records of repairs, replacements, and system modifications.
• Document service reports and work orders for tracking purposes.
• Compliance and Safety
• Ensure systems are installed and maintained in compliance with local codes and regulations.
• Follow safety protocols when working with tools, equipment, and hazardous materials.
• Prevent water runoff and erosion by adhering to sustainable irrigation practices.
• Collaboration and Teamwork
• Coordinate with landscape architects, engineers, and maintenance teams to align irrigation systems with overall landscape designs.
• Assist in training junior technicians or maintenance staff on system operation and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of Tools and Equipment
• Operate trenchers, pipe cutters, and other tools required for system installation and repair.
• Maintain and store tools in proper working condition.

• Use digital controllers, flow meters, and other technologies to monitor and optimize irrigation systems.
